This fantastic solid metal mid century Protectoseal #1413 would have been commonly found at service/gas stations & auto garages for cleaning and soaking grungy auto parts. Has an embossed "Liquid Level" marking/line on the front surface: in typical fashion a cleaning solvent like turpentine or even gasoline would be added to the fill line.

Inside contains four welded-on clips (one for each side) - often these containers were found with an optional round parts sieve basket, complete with two handles, which was useful for dunking & cleaning many small parts in a single operation. Because of the flammable nature of the solvent, for safety the top lid closes with a heavy spring that requires some effort to open.

Measures approx. 10" tall by 9½" by 9½" and weighs about 5 pounds. Manufactured by Protectoseal Co. in Chicago, IL, USA (circa 1950's/60's).

Condition: Overall good condition; recently repainted with rustproof (Tremclad) paint. Lid works like new and closes snugly.
