Just a few 'site updates' for August 2016
New Camera (Complaints... Part 1):
So, one of the biggest complaints (mea culpa) about CaribooCollectibles is in reference to the poor quality of the product pictures. Yes, I'm am in accordance - many of them are very sad indeed, especially the early photos. And let's face it: I'm no photographer - but I've been making a concerted effort to take better photos as of late. Maybe some of you have noticed the change. Firstly, I'm no longer using my archaic LG-G2 phone to capture pics, instead now opting for my new Samsung Galaxy S7. The difference in picture quality is simply outstanding! Secondly, I've received some photo tips from my dear friend Natoyaista at Etsy.com. Etsy shop merchants really raise the bar in terms of the caliber of photography.
...which brings me to another point...
Porting over to Etsy (Complaints... Part 2):
Another complaint we often field is about the CaribooCollectibles product checkout page and our shopping cart. While fully functional it appears amateurish & cheap. And it is, truth told. We're using Prestashop as the backbone for our e-Commerce web services and while I installed & tested a few different Prestashop themes, they all seem to display the same shoddy cart/checkout pages. One would think that they'd have put a serious effort into developing what I believe to be the most important part of e-Commerce (customer's trust in buying), but it falls flat on this crucial point. I'm not some shrinking violet when it comes to coding; I know a little, but I'm not about to spend countless hours rewriting a multitude of html5, css and php pages. Alas, to be taken seriously Cariboo must move on (and away) from Prestashop.
Therefore, CaribooCollectibles will most likely be moving our shop to Etsy.com, and soon. Look for us at Etsy.com/ca/CaribooCollectibles. But don't fret - we'll continue to keep our prices competitively low by comparison. It is unknown at this time whether we'll keep the 'CaribooCollectibles.com' domain as it is, or transform the website into something new & fresh.
