A beautiful powder compact made in the 1950s by Melissa, a company that manufactured ladies' compacts briefly in the 50's. The top of the compact is made from lucite (a special type of plastic) that was fashionable throughout the 30's to 50's. This lucite was 'reverse carved' onto a textured glittery foil backdrop and specially inlaid with a gorgeous rose/flower motif decor. This clear & foil cover beautifully frames and contrasts with the lucite rose decoration while the back is a ridged gold tone metal. The inside of the compact contains an inner hinged lid that is held in place by the well known Melissa "tear-drop" catch or clasp. A clean mirror lays adjacent to a wonderfully textured gold tone embroidered design located on the exterior of the inner lid. The original pink sifter is also included.
This nostalgic item, harking back to more elegant times, is an official Melissa-marked compact. Measures nearly 3 inches in diameter.
Condition: Very good, hinges and clasps are in perfect working order. Some light scratching to the lucite cover, as seen in the photos. Requires some cleaning, especially to the diamond-styled metal bottom.
