Rare Boxed John Turton Complete 7 Piece Demitasse Dessert Spoon Set Silverplate.
Gorgeous boxed art nouveau set of John Turton Sheffield dessert/demitasse spoons. This exquisite (and rare!) set is presented in its original velvet & cream coloured satin/sateen-lined storage case. In fantastic condition, this wonderful antique silverplate set would make a perfect gift for any discerning flatware aficionado or as a wedding/anniversary present. Made in England circa 1898 - 1923.
Because of the inclusion of an exaggeratedly oversized serving spoon, the set could have been used for ice cream/sorbet, condiments, fruit/jello, melons or other desserts.
Hallmarked symbols include: [J.T] [S] [*symbol] [EP] and Rd 751144 (registered).
• [J.T] = John Turton
• [S] = Sheffield
• [ * ] = unknown internal symbol
• [EP] = Electroplate (silver)
The following silverplate pieces are included:
• [6pc] Condiment/Sugar Spoon - 5⅜"
• [1pc] Serving Spoon - 8⅝"
Clasps have an embossed word "PATAPPFOR" which probably stands for "Patent Applied For". No other identifiable markings or documentation were found within or on the storage box.
Dimensions: Box measures 9¼" x 6½" and stands 2" tall. Weighs approximately 1¼ pounds (box + silverware).
CONDITION: Latches/hinges are functional and in fine working order. Lining on exterior of box is lifting/bubbling in places. Remarkably the insides & padding materials are like-new. Spoons are in excellent condition and nearly free of any wear or scratches - it almost seems as though these spoons were rarely used, if ever. This silverplate set has not yet been cleaned or polished.
