Depression Era/Art Deco Sterling Silver Salt Cellar & Condiment Set with cobalt blue glass liners. Manufactured by D.R. Dingwall of Winnipeg, Canada. A wonderful antique sterling silver & cobalt condiment set, ready to compliment any classic or contemporary dining decor!
Fortunately we have the original case; unfortunately we're also missing one of the five condiment bowls, otherwise this would sell for much higher as a complete set. All five original sterling silver spoons are included.
The weight of all nine silver pieces (without cobalt glass) is 154 grams combined. As of today's silver market value, that's $105 CAD. Combined weight of silver with the cobalt glass is 262 grams. Maker's hallmarks are clearly stamped on each piece.
Exact date of manufacture is not known. In 1933, Dingwall Limited amalgamated with Birks - thus likely these pieces were crafted before that. Donald Ross Dingwall arrived in Winnipeg during the boom years of the early 1880s. By 1910 the Dingwall building was erected in Winnipeg. "In 1933, Henry Birks and Sons absorbed D.R. Dingwall Limited and for many years the business was popularly known as Birks-Dingwall."
