Vintage 1940s Bakelite Wall Mounted AE50 Rotary Monophone
Just look at the sleek lines on this telephone! Also known as 'the jukebox' or coffin phone, these wall-mounted Automatic Electric 'AE50' rotary monophones were manufactured from 1937 to 1956. This AE50 would make for an ideal restoration project - or else use for staging/prop in a retro decor setting. Handset and body are made of bakelite; phone weighs in at around 7 pounds.
Identification is not marked on this phone, but components inside the handset are stamped "A.E. Co.". The bottom has no true identifiable stickers (they've since been removed) but there is a mark "L500 / 80 TC" and an inspection stamp. Often the year of manufacture can be found inside, although we didn't open it up to inspect for ourselves.
Dimensions: Body measures 9½" tall by 5¾" wide by 5¼". Handset is 9¼" long.
CONDITION: Sold in "as-is" condition; this phone does not have an exiting cord. It is not known if the phone works or not. When engaged the rotary is sticky/hitchy but does return to original position. Some small areas of minor scuffs and scratching and a little bit of paint. No chips or cracks to the case or handset. Both ends of the handset are removable.
