Antique Y & S (Young & Smylie) Licorice Lozenge Tin with glass window and beautiful, intricate lithograph on the top and all sides. This specimen was intended to sit atop a counter in a general store, confectionery or drug store for display. What a wonderful sight this colourful box would have been back in its prime! Likely even pre Art Nouveau, the gold & black tin heralds from circa 1880s.

The arched front panel has a glass window insert (and contains the original undamaged glass). When in operation this licorice tin held 5 pounds of product.

Likely even pre Art Nouveau, this gold & black tin heralds from circa 1880s. An excellent addition to a collection of vintage or antique general store or tin advertising.

Measurements: Stands 7¾" tall by 3¾" deep by 6" wide. This box could have contained a variety of licorice products. Back lithograph text reads:

• Y&S Pure Calabria Licorice. 4,6,8,9,12 & 15 Sticks to lb.
• Ringed Licorice, Pure Calabria.  17 Sticks to lb.
• Ringed Licorice, (Pat. Feb. 3, 1877 ?)
• Acme Licorice Pellets
• Tar Licorice & Tolu Wafers
• Licorice Y&S Lozenges
• Manufactured Exclusively by Young & Smylie, Brooklyn, E.D. N.Y.

Condition: Like most antiques, not exactly in mint condition. Has some damage to lid (small tearing at front and near back hinge) but it still closes firmly. Lithograph imagery has faded - body possesses regular scrapes, bumps and oxidation typically associated with an item as old as this. Please refer to all 8 photographs above; images have been digitally enhanced to show detail - this tin is actually darker than it appears.
