1966 Yashima 8 Transistor Pocket Radio With Leather Case Made in Japan
At first glance this "HiFi Deluxe 8-Transistor" radio appears to be the doppleganger of the 'Kapitan TR-1500' as seen at radiomuseum.org (www.radiomuseum.org/r/unknown_kapitan_hifi_deluxe_8_tr.html), a radio which was purportedly produced in Hong Kong. However, on ours the name plate where the brand should be is empty. Fair enough - many manufacturers were loaning out products & components to other companies at the time, who then rebranded as their own.
Upon closer inspection (and Google luck) it has been established that this portable radio was actually manufactured by "Yashima Electric Industry Co., Ltd". An inside production sticker explains it is a YT-138 model, made in 1966 in Japan. This particular radio had a few different brand names including Kapitan, Captain, Kaptain and finally our Yashima (as seen in this link - www.radiomuseum.org/r/yashima_yt_138.html ).
Regardless of brand, 1966 Yashima radios are quite rare with only a handful known to exist on the internet. All components were made in Japan (plastic case, leather case, and internal electronics).
CONDITION: Well used. It has black electrical tape holding it together on one side (probably because there's no hinge or screws and the back had to be popped open repeatedly to swap out the batteries). Plastic case has some small damage to the bottom where it appears to have been pried open with a screwdriver-like tool. Leather case has some wear & tear located near one of the snaps. NOTE: RADIO HAS NOT BEEN TESTED. It is not known if it works or not, sold as-is.
